How to storage drill rod & DTH hammer?

12/29/2015

Picture
This year the engineering and mining industry is still during the downturn, many drilling equipment underemployment, in addition, the Chinese Spring Festival is approaching, a lot of crawler rock drill is also close to downtime, storage in downtime of drilling rig is easy to overlook the problem of everyone, in fact, room for crawler drilling equipment and drill tools is very important when you start to use it .

How to make the drill rod storage?
Blowing, make sure all the water is dry inside of drill rod, then open the drill shank lubrication part, mainly, it’s the best when you can see the lubricating oil in the bottom of drill pipe.
Drill rod external should be clean, include the central part of drill pipe and screw thread part. Then cover on the connector of male & female, avoiding the dirty is gone inside.
The cover is small and cheap, but it can for avoiding dirty.
Storage and reuse for DTH hammer
Short term storage.Following the below step.
Blowing, make sure DTH hammer inside is dry entirely.
Filling one liter of drill shank oil from the top connector
Blowing again, about 10 seconds, it will make all the inner parts of DTH hammer is lubricated.
Same way with drill rod, cover on the top & bottom connector.
Lay down the DTH hammer as the horizontal position in the dry place.
Long term storage.A little bit different.
Blowing, make sure DTH hammer inside is dry entirely.
Unscrewing the top & bottom connector, disassemble the DTH hammer.
Checking, wipe all the inner parts of DTH hammer, it’s better to do it inside the workshop.
Use the suitable lubrication oil for all parts.
Assemble the DTH hammer, cover on the top & bottom connector.
Lay down the DTH hammer as the horizontal position in the dry place.
Three steps when reusing the DTH hammer
Disassemble the DTH hammer, checking all the inner parts, If you find that some parts of the surface oxide, you need to sandpaper polished appropriate partially oxidized. If you do not check, then put it into use directly, the DTH hammer is likely to cause premature failure.
Clean all parts, wipe clean, lubricated.
Cleaning lubricated parts, assembled into DTH hammer, ready for reuse.
Well, there are many drillers think like this, is it necessary to follow the above steps? The mining site condition is limited; we store it whatever we want usually.
OK, this is a good question, it’s also a secret of benefit. Some boss asks me, why other company annual benefit is higher than ours, we work in the same mining site, use the same pneumatic crawler drilling rig?The reason is now, you can save a lot if you store and maintenance for drill rods and DTH hammer with correct way.
Many drillers record the drill tools consume, e.g., how long the DTH hammer can work. Now the global mining market is still slow, the price of drilling hole per meter is going down continuously. So I suggest that all the boss pay more attention to the storage and maintenance of drill tools. You can have a try to see if the life of drill rod and DTH hammer is more extended than before if you follow our suggestion step. Definitely will save A LOT of your money.
I remember an Australian driller told me, the drill machine is more reliable than a human. You treat it well; then it treats you better. Look, our crawler rock drill is just like one year old, but we use it for three years now.
